2. “PIEMONTESI NEL MONDO”, A Prize from the Motherland

      In 2009, Pierette is returning to Italy to receive a global award given by
      her native region: the Piedmont. The Association of Piemontesi in the
      World honors annually an emigrant living outside of Italy. The award
      recognizes patriotism and talent in piemontesi who have contributed
      works or projects highlighting culture, language, literature, and the arts.

      Espressioni augurali, di apprezzamento e di consenso per i 35 anni
      del monumento simbolo dell'emigrazione “Ai Piemontesi nel Mondo”
      inaugurato a San Pietro Val Lemina (TO) nel 1974, di cui si è data
      notizia con notiziario dello scorso mese, sono pervenute dal
      Presidente della Società Italiana e Piemontese di Dolores in Uruguay
      Enrico Armand Hugon, e da Pierette Domenica Simpson del Michigan
      (USA) autrice del premiato libro “L'ultima notte dell'Andrea Doria” e
      affermata giornalista di origine piemontese.

      Anche la nota rivista “Italia Arte” n. 39 del dicembre 2008 ha dedicato,
      con un documentato articolo di Alessandra Taraglio e fotografia, ampio
      risalto al valore simbolico del monumento “Ai Piemontesi nel Mondo”.

   2008 NEW ENGLAND BOOK FESTIVAL NAMES WINNERS PROVIDENCE, Rhode
   Island (December 14, 2008) _ The 2008 New England Book Festival has named
   “Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency” by Barton Gellman as the winner of its
   annual competition honoring the best books of the holiday season.
   The book, an expansion of a Washington Post series, looks at the White House
   reign Dick Cheney, a man who redefined the vice presidency to a never-before-
   seen level of influence that ranged from war, the economy, the environment
   and the law. Gellman parts the curtains of secrecy surrounding Cheney in
   documentary fashion to show how the vice president operated and what he
   wrought. Gellman and other festival winners will be honored during a ceremony
   to be held in Providence, Rhode Island on January 24, 2009.
