ALIVE ON THE ANDREA DORIA!
THE GREATEST SEA RESCUE IN HISTORY
by Pierette Domenica Simpson

A
SURVIVOR MARKS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRAGIC SINKING
AND MIRACULOUS RESCUE
On July 25, 1956, a most unlikely collision between two ocean liners took place off the shoals of Nantucket. The catastrophic ramming of the Stockholm into Italy's crown jewel, the luxury liner Andrea Doria, sent shock waves around the world. In the new book, ALIVE ON THE ANDREA DORIA! THE GREATEST SEA RESCUE IN HISTORY, author Pierette Domenica Simpson becomes the first Andrea Doria survivor to publish a first-hand account of a calamity that could have been another Titanic. As an eyewitness, Simpson presents gripping vignettes retold by poor immigrants, wealthy travelers, members of the clergy, and the ship’s crew.
ALIVE ON THE ANDREA DORIA! also discloses never-before-published, scientific data compiled in both Italy and the U.S. The reader is logically led on a quest for the truth, arriving at a conclusion as to who was to blame for this most unlikely disaster.
Highlights: Due to the book's wide appeal since the launching, the Italian version L'ULTIMA NOTTE DELL'ANDREA DORIA, has been optioned for a movie. Moreover, ALIVE ON THE ANDREA DORIA! was chosen Book of the Month (December) by the United Kingdom's premier maritime journal, Ships Monthly. Also, the Order of the Sons of Italian Americans is including the book on its annual recommended reading list.
...a survivor's tale that is the ultimate page-turner. Alive on the Andrea Doria! reads like a real-life version of the suspense-packed novel/film The Poseidon Adventure. Switch Poseidon's locations, era and give fictitious characters real names and you have the makings of a first-class read from cover to cover.
